ANTIQUE 1920s DOCTORS BAG, PORT. COPPER TRAY, MEDICAL SURGICAL INSTRAMENTS
.
SOLD AS FOUND.
DR JOSEPH DERBY MOORE
Originally owned by Dr. Joseph Derby Moore. He practiced in Chilliwack from circa 1920 to 1968. Dr. Moore worked with Dr. Elliot (sp. ?) as a young man. When Dr. Elliot died, Mr. Moore took over his practice and also married his widow. The Elliots had a son.
According to Dr. Henry Pauls, a local surgeon since the mid-1960s, most of these instruments date to the 1920s or 1930s. It is possible that they originally belonged to Dr. Elliot. They appear to have been little used, and are all high quality instruments. Dr. Pauls also reported that Dr. Moore was a track star.
According to the source there was a sale of Dr. Moore's equipment after he died (1968). Dr. Bartel and Dr. Borschneck bought most of it.
Dr. Joseph Derby Moore was a longtime doctor and surgeon in Chilliwack, BC CANADA. At the time of his death, November 8, 1968, aged 78 he had practiced medicine in Chilliwack for 48 years. Moore was born in Kamloops and was a graduate of McGill University. During the First World War he was a Captain with the Canadian Army Medical Corps.
Moore was a charter member and past president of the Chilliwack Rotary Club and was a member of the Chilliwack Medical Society. He was married to Kathleen Moore [maiden name unknown] and had one daughter.
From Joseph Derby Moore's CEF attestation papers it shows that he was born in Nicola, BC CANADA.
